Lenovo moved through three main generations: the old round barrel, the thin rectangular slim tip introduced on ThinkPads, and now USB-C Power Delivery. Identifying which one your machine uses is the whole job - everything after that is just voltage and wattage.

Three checks before you order a Lenovo replacement

  1. Match the voltage exactly. The label on your original adapter reads something like "Output: 19.5V 3.34A". The replacement must carry the same voltage – a higher or lower figure risks no charge or a protection fault.
  2. Amperage may be equal or higher. The laptop pulls only the current it needs, so a 4.62A adapter safely replaces a 3.34A one, never the other way round.
  3. Confirm the connector. Barrel size (outer x inner diameter in mm), USB-C, or a proprietary magnetic / special tip. Measure before ordering if the listing does not state it.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Lenovo slim tip?
A thin rectangular connector with flat sides used on many ThinkPad models, mechanically different from the round barrel used earlier.

Can I charge a ThinkPad through USB-C?
Only on models whose USB-C port supports Power Delivery at or above the required wattage.

Will a Lenovo slim tip adapter fit an IdeaPad?
Usually not. Most IdeaPads use the round barrel or USB-C, not the ThinkPad slim tip.
